President’s Message

August 19, 2026
Welcome—David Freeze called the meeting to order and welcomed members at 5:45p.m.
Board Members present – David Freeze, Steve Clark, Luann Fesperman, Amanda Lewis, Teresa Shaw, Lynn Furr, Morgan Huffman, Connie Hoffner.
Treasurer’s Report— Luann Fesperman reported the total in account is $27,165.33 as of the end of July. The income was $735.00 and the expenses were $175.00.
Membership Report—Lynn Furr reported that there are 171 members with 13 not current.
Upcoming Races—David Freeze reported on the following:
August 29 at 8 a.m.-Prediction Run at Salisbury City Park. Amanda reported that there are 11 signed up at present.
September 12 at 9 a.m.-Run for the Word 5K in Landis. Lynn reported that there are 40 signed up at present. Sponsorship is going well. A video by Joe Harris was sent to the schools and the churches in the area. Lynn stated that they visited the schools during their open houses.
September 26 at 8:45 a.m.-Sisters in the Fight 5K at the Greenway. David, Amanda and Steve have communicated with the race director about various issues. Amanda to contact concerning medals and need for registration staff and enough course volunteers.
China Grove Middle School Cross Training Timing-To be held on Thursday, August 27th at 4:30 p.m. Luann and Steve volunteered to assist. David stated that the coaches and parent volunteers are there to assist. This is in preparation for timing two meets on Oct. 1st. Amanda will also miss a week during which we have two other meets. Lynn and Luann will help with those.
Handheld Clock-Seiko
David reported that there are currently three working clocks with one of those not printing correctly. David stated that he contacted Seiko about repair of the clocks. An estimate of $92.00 for repair, $28.00 for handling as well as charges for shipping both ways. The price for a new clock would be $449.00 plus tax from Amazon. After discussion, Luann made a motion to buy two new handheld clocks. Steve seconded the motion and the motion carried unanimously.
Rowan Helping Ministries Walk Club
David reported that the walking club at Rowan Helping Ministries will begin Monday, September 14th at 10 a.m. David stated that all volunteers with Walk Club are welcome.
Rowan Helping Ministries Meals
Meals were served this week and volunteers will continue as needed. Major changes have happened in management at RHM.
Beginner Running Class
The class will begin on Tuesday, September 8th at Salisbury Police Department at 6pm
Cross Country Payouts
David reported that it is time to make payouts to cross county teams. David stated that East Rowan High School, West Rowan High School, Carson High School, South Rowan High School have teams with Salisbury High School without a coach and information unknown at present concerning North Rowan High School’s team. Luann made a motion upon David’s suggestion to increase the payout donation to $150.00 for the four schools that have teams and to North Rowan High School and Salisbury High School if they have teams. Teresa seconded the motion and the motion carried unanimously. David stated that he will contact Rebecca Parker concerning this to help with distribution of the checks.
Dragon Boat Race
Steve stated that there are 21 participants and 1 alternate for the Dragon boat event. Steve stated that practice would be Friday, September 21st at 5 p.m. and the Dragon boat Race on August 22. Steve Clark is coordinating the team. David will send the link for the waiver and have them available on Friday for the participants to sign and return. Steve stated that water will be provided and that participants can bring snacks.
Organizational Structure-
David distributed an organizational structure chart for Salisbury Rowan Runners Club for review and discussion at the September meeting. Teresa inquired about a previous email regarding responsibilities. David will email this information. Luann inquired about the potential for additional board members. David stated that would be discussed at the next meeting.
New Business-
We are adding Marissa Chunn from GNC and Porter Baker as business members. David will get their membership forms, as well as one foir Ralph Baker Jr. who was added to membership last week as a business member.
Next meeting-Tuesday, September 8th at 6:45 p.m. at Salisbury Police Department after the Beginners Running Class.
