Board members present were David Freeze, Steve Clark, Luann Fesperman, Amanda Lewis, Teresa Shaw, Tisha Corriher, Lynn Furr, Connie Hoffner.

David welcomed everyone to what would be a busy August meeting, especially after no meeting was held in July.

Treasurer’s report—Luann reported that the club has $28,581.15 in current assets. Expenses for July were $986.90 and income was $1,710.

Membership—Tisha reported that SRR has 182 new members. 9 are new members, and 20 have expired memberships. Members in good standing total 162.

Upcoming races—

Prediction Run—Saturday—Amanda/Steve are heading this event. The run will start near the recreation center and finish at the shelter. Special activities include demos of Topos shoes, Oofus sandals and Feetures socks.

Hugh Bost 5K, Rockwell—Sept. 6. Chief Trexler is the RD. Same course as last year. Started late but catching up on preparation.

Run for the Word, Landis—Sept. 13th—Lynn reports all is well with new activities including post-race ice cream and Officer Bernad P. Fife running the race.

Sisters in the Fight 5K, Salisbury Community Park—Sept. 27—New race this year, off to a slow start but Amanda has helped them get going.

Back Creek Church 5K, Back Creek Church—October 4—Brittany Chester’s race, same course and pancake breakfast after. Benefitting church projects.

October 18th—Do the Double!!—This is the rare opportunity to run two races on the same day. Both fast courses and fun events.

Run to the River 5K, Spencer—9am—Slow to get going on brochure. Parks and Rec is handling. David pushed them today.

Rotary Crawl 5K, China Grove—4pm—New race with energetic RD, and still using the fast and famous CG course.

St. Matthews 5K, St. Matthews—Oct. 25—Race slow to get going which is common. But a solid race that will pull it together.

Spooky Sprint 5K—Oct. 26—Spooky will again be on the new course on the Greenway behind Catawba, a very popular shaded and mostly flat course. David may modify the stadium part of the course.

Middle school cross country timing—David, Amanda and Lynn will be handling timing for as many as 10-11 middle school meets.

Winter Flight medals plan—Luann and Jason—Luann gave total cost projections based on buying significant die cast medals. High race costs in the Charlotte area reflect costly big participation medals. Board decided to stick with age group awards and not do large participation medals, with the net result of more moderate entry fees.

Fall BRC—September 4th, 8 weeks—All board members should help make this happen. David asked everyone to consider the fact that BRC will eventually need a new leader.

Dragonboat recap—Teresa, Luann, Connie and Steve all reported a fun event, and we plan to do it again next year.

Update on learning David’s responsibilities, 4 months remaining—Shirts, Scheduling, Courses, Permitting, Novant, Newsletter, Timing and more. David had challenged the board to learn some of his responsibilities in hopes that the club will remain solid and stable for many years to come. During discussions last night, Teresa asked to become more involved in scheduling (David’s most time consuming responsibility). Luann will begin learning to measure and mark courses. Steve will learn the permitting phase for city races (with the help of FD permitting chief Adrian Gantt, SRR member). Teresa has asked about helping with Novant sponsorship paperwork. Lynn will dig deeper into publishing the newsletter, along with newsletter editor Aaron Crowe. Amanda and Steve have had some experience timing the races and Amanda understands it from the perspective of results. Both are involved in weekly races on a regular basis. We are making progress. None yet on the shirts, printing, purchasing aspect of club operations. Other items will surface in the next few months and will be addressed. Jason, Connie and Tisha all are capable and will have opportunities for involvement.

New business—David reported on a bill for brake and wiper motor repair for the van. David asked to share the cost of $402 with the club. Luann made a motion that the club pay the whole bill. Teresa seconded the motion, and it was approved unanimously.

David also reported that the United Way has asked the club for sponsorship on the upcoming Into the Light Suicide Awareness Walk at Catawba College on October 11th. Steve made a motion to do a $250 sponsorship and Luann seconded. This request was also approved unanimously.

Next meeting—September 15th
