- Sunday, February 2, 2003 – The weather was spring-like (60s and sunny) for the 20th Annual Winter Flight 8K which also included a “Be Active Fitness Festival” sponsored by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina and hosted by WBNA player Andrea Stinson. There were 395 participants in the 8K and 54 in the fun run. For the first time in many years, the annual run was preceded by a kick-off pasta dinner/speaker on Saturday evening at the new J.F. Hurley Family YMCA in Salisbury. The speaker, Bart Yasso of Runner’s World Magazine,. was engaging and energetic Proceeds from the race went to the YMCA, Catawba College, Be Active North Carolina and the Rowan County Ham Radio Operators.
