2003 – Race Challenges

  • A ‘behind the scenes’ challenge presented itself at South Rowan High School when previous bad weather forced RSS to hold school on Saturday morning, March 1, 2003, the very morning of the Ain’t Hogs Great 5K. Once school was scheduled, the only options for SRR were postponing the race, canceling it altogether, or moving the start time to early afternoon.  Since the shirts and trophies were already printed with a race date, the food was already bought and the volunteers were already committed, race officials did the only thing they could do—move the start time.  With two days notice, they scrambled to get the word out by telephone, word of mouth, newspaper announcements, emails, flyers, etc.  As it turned out, there was only one irate runner. $3,000 was raised for the South Rowan Booster Club!
